Lockdown Archetypes

Moving back and forth between lockdowns and curfew restrictions, different mindsets and personalities emerge from the underlying stresses and daily struggles to cope with the new norm. As one of India’s best couch manufacturers, Urban Living seeks to introduce a humourous stance to describe common archetypes we’ve identified — and furniture to match. In comparison to other luxury sofa manufacturers, we strive for our society to maintain healthy work-life balance starting with our homes.

The Master Chef

Coping with the first few weeks into a lockdown makes people consider how they view life and how to keep busy. Extra hours at home necessitates that people come up with novel ideas to pass time rather than just idling in front of TV screens. Those with outdoor hobbies are being forced to change habits; people tend to find hobbies to fill up their weekends.

Baking and cooking have become a trending home-based hobby over the past year. Sharpening these skills would mean one needs to spend hours practicing the art of it. The Master Chef is the emergence of foodie enthusiasts that cook up a storm by trying out exciting recipes.

We’ve paired the Master Chef with Andria from Atmosphere Collection. Upholstered in a deep maroon that evokes wine, Andria is makes an idyllic setting with ample seating for grazing and lounging together. Even if alone, Andria has extended seating that allows you to stretch out your legs after a tiring day and nibble on your favourite snacks.

The Wellness Junkie

Being trapped indoors can take a toll on people’s mental health due to the lack of psychological and physical stimulation. A lot of people struggle to keep their sanity in check. To combat negative vibes, we see the emergence of home-based wellness, whether following yoga classes on Zoom, or housing a mini gym in the hall. The Wellness Junkie is next up as an archetype, as they seek to uplift their homes with bursts of activity and calmed by fragrant incense.

A great sofa befitting the Wellness Junkie is our new launch Brandon Beloved sofa from the Freedom Collection. Brandon is clean and unpretentious. It sofa goes beyond the everyday with it's squarish, padded backrest. It’s an ideal place to relax and rejuvenate after a tiring workout!

The Workaholic

Working-from-home has definitely changed the way people collaborate and go about with their jobs. With so many tasks being digitized and back-to-back meetings running on Zoom, the boundaries of work-life balance are being blurred. Home settings must support ergonomics and be varied or else well-being and productivity may suffer due to burnouts.

Setting up an adequate workstation is pivotal to avoid these kind of situations. One of the recent models we have come up with called the Kodiak Comfort swivel chair, is designed to give people respite from their desks. Being able to take a break from the laptop, this chair lets people sit back and relax while reading or simply having a short break. It’s a must have for all The Workaholics out there who go beyond the regular office hours to get tasks done.

The Plant Parent

There’s no shortage in online shopping deals these days… and some people tend to get carried away by splurging on home furnishing! We’ve identified the proud Plant Parent as an archetype that loves ordering accessories and plants to dress up their homes and add a breath of fresh air.

To accommodate the man potted plants and trinkets, we recommend the Denver Dream as a neutral sofa set to maintain a neat and clean look. It offers great repose to soak in the sunlight and lush settings.
